Overview
In the Lesser Sunda Islands and made up of Komodo, Rinca and Padar, the national park joined the World Heritage List in 1986. Around three thousand Komodo dragons live here, the largest living lizards, reaching three metres. The viewpoint on Padar is the classic shot, and the park also holds Pink Beach and Manta Point, where manta rays and reef sharks are common.
History
Declared in 1980 to protect the Komodo dragon and its habitat, it was inscribed as World Heritage in 1986 and extended to surrounding waters in 1991.
