North America's largest ski resort, skiing in winter and riding in summer, with a cable car over the Coast Mountains.
Overview
About 125 kilometres north of Vancouver, Whistler combines Whistler and Blackcomb mountains into the largest ski resort in North America. The Peak 2 Peak gondola between them runs some 4.4 kilometres and reaches 436 metres above the valley, the highest of its kind. Summer brings mountain biking, hiking and ziplining, the pedestrian village stays busy year-round, and the 2010 Winter Olympics alpine events were held here.
History
It grew from a ski development in 1966, co-hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics with Vancouver and has since become a year-round destination.
