Overview
Cradle Mountain rises to 1,545 metres in Tasmania's central highlands and forms a national park with Lake St Clair to the south, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1982. The classic route is the six-kilometre circuit of Dove Lake, which frames the mountain's reflection. Wombats, echidnas and Tasmanian devils are commonly seen, and the multi-day Overland Track starts here.
History
Protected at the urging of the Austrian mountaineer Gustav Weindorfer in 1912 and gazetted in 1922, it is among Tasmania's oldest national parks.
