Overview
In Port Campbell National Park along the Great Ocean Road, the Twelve Apostles are limestone stacks left standing by coastal erosion, with about seven or eight remaining. Viewpoints look over the Southern Ocean and the stacks, best at sunrise and sunset. Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge and the Gibson Steps sit nearby, about four hours by car from Melbourne.
History
Formed by wave erosion of limestone cliffs and given their name in the 20th century; several stacks have since collapsed, so fewer than twelve remain.
